Soror Erica Courtenay-Mann, Leadership

In the heart of the Houston community, leadership is not just about holding a position—it is about the "strategic investment of time, talent, and energy" to foster strength and sustainability. This philosophy is at the core of everything Soror Erica Courtenay-Mann does. A dynamic and proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Soror Courtenay-Mann embodies the belief that the true greatness of a community is measured by the compassionate and intentional actions of its members.

Soror Courtenay-Mann’s commitment to "Greater Service, Greater Progress" is evident in her staggering record of volunteerism. Over the last eight years, she has documented an impressive 4,214 hours of volunteering. This unwavering engagement has earned her the prestigious Lifetime Achievement level of the President’s Action Award, the equivalent of the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Her service spans a wide range of impactful organizations, including:

  • Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.: Currently serving as the Epistoleus for the Lambda Omega Sigma Alumnae Chapter, where she acts as the chapter's historian and digital strategist.  While concurrently serving as the chair for the Standard Operation Procedures committee for the Southwestern Region.

  • National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC): She has held multiple leadership roles in both the Houston and North Houston councils, including Social Media Officer, Tech Specialist, and her current role as the Inaugural Parliamentarian for NPHC North Houston.

  • National Charity League (NCL), Inc.: As the 2024-2025 President of the Post Oak Chapter and National DEI Co-Chair from 2023 to present day, she has worked to build a more inclusive environment and strengthen mother-daughter bonds through service.

For Soror Courtenay-Mann, philanthropy is a tool for social change. She asserts that by intentionally assuming leadership roles, Black Americans can strategically "reshape the societal narrative" and highlight the rich, historical legacy of their inherent generosity.

As a 2025 Order of the Omega Inductee and the National Pan-Hellenic Council 2025-2027 Distinguished Soror (Small Council Category), her accolades are a testament to a life lived in service to others. She continues to inspire those around her to move beyond transactional giving and toward a deep-seated commitment to creating a more equitable and compassionate world.
