The Lambda Omega Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. recently marked a significant milestone with the first official gathering of the Vintage Poodles Book Club. This initiative stands as a testament to the chapter’s commitment to intentional sisterhood, specifically designed to celebrate and engage Sorors who are 50 years of age and older.

The Vintage Poodles prioritize the intersectionality of aging and joy, recognizing that the need for a supportive, vibrant community only grows stronger with time. By creating a dedicated space for fellowship, the chapter honors the wisdom of its seasoned members while ensuring they remain deeply connected to the heart of the sorority.
For their first literary journey, the group gathered at Chitalian Pizzeria to discuss Viola Davis’s soul-baring autobiography, Finding Me. The choice was deeply symbolic; as dynamic women leaders, the Vintage Poodles understand the profound importance of seeing their own lives and triumphs mirrored in literature.
The discussion centered on how Davis’s story—from humble beginnings to becoming an EGOT winner—parallels the resilience and strength found within the Black female experience. For women who have spent decades leading in their professions and communities, encountering a narrative that reflects their complexity is more than just entertainment; it is a form of validation.

The meeting highlighted a crucial truth: when dynamic women leaders see themselves reflected in literacy and society, it strengthens the collective identity of the greater community. The Vintage Poodles Book Club is not merely about reading; it is about affirming that the stories, voices, and presence of mature women of color are essential, powerful, and worthy of celebration.
Lambda Omega Sigma looks forward to the continued growth of the Vintage Poodles as they continue to prove that sisterhood, much like a good book, only gets better with time.
